Ajit Kumar Yadav won gold medal in the third Asian Youth Athletics Championship in Hong Kong today.
Yadav completed the 3,000m race in eight minutes and 30.32 seconds to finish first. Amit Jangir was second in 8:36.34, while Gamil Al-Hamati of Yeman finished third with the timing of 8:38.60. A total of 15 athletes from the region were in fray in the event.
Yadav became the first Nepali athlete to win gold medal in Asian Youth Athletics Championship and second overall in Asian level. Rajendra Bhandari had won gold in 5,000m race in Asian All-Star Athletics Championship in Singapore in 2004.
