Kathmandu, September 25
Nepal Golf Association is organising the World Tourism Day Golf Tournament here at the Gokarna Golf Club on Friday.
A total of 80 golfers, including 30 from Thailand, Malaysia, South Korea and Indonesia, will take part in the tournament, being organised in association with Nepal Tourism Board and Gokarna Forest Resort, informed Deepak Acharya, Youth Development Director of NGA, at a press meet. Thai Airways, Kia Motors, Ballantine’s, Royal Singi Hotel and Warsteiner are the other partners of the event.
The tournament, which will be played under stableford 3/4 handicap format, features four categories — men, gross, women and senior. Top five golfers in men’s section will earn prizes.
Apart from other awards in longest drive, closest-to-the-pin and most birdies, the NGA has also kept Hole-in-One prize of Kia car on the par-3 10th hole.
NGA vice-president Pavitra Kumar Karki said the objective of the tournament was to contribute in tourism through sports. “We are organizing the tournament ahead of the Visit Nepal Year 2020 and we hope the event would help in disseminating the message to the world through the visiting golfers,” said Karki. “We will organise this tournament in a grand way next year and we are planning to expand it to RNGC and Pokhara as well.”
Narintorn Sukkaseam, Thai Airways General Manager (Nepal and Bhutan), was grateful to the NGA for making them official airlines partner. “We want to contribute to Nepal’s tourism and I hope this event will be able to help the VNY 2020 campaign,” said Sukkaseam. “We will also take Nepali golfers to Thailand in the days to come.
