Waling advance to semi-finals

Kathmandu, June 17

Waling Municipality advanced to the semi-finals of the Deputy Mayor Cup Inter-Municipality Women’s National Football Tournament here at Nepal APF Club grounds in Halchowk today.

Waling played a goalless draw with Bansgadhi Municipality to top Group A as an unbeaten side. Waling, who had registered victories against Shambhunath and Ghorahi in their previous matches, accumulated seven points from three matches.

With the provision of only group winners progressing to last four, Bansgadhi, Shambhunath and Ghorahi were eliminated from the pool.

Also, Bahrabise Municipality and Chandrapur Municipality also recorded victories in other matches. Bahrabise defeated Bhimeshwor Dolakha Municipality 3-1.

Bahrabise took the lead through an own goal from Bhimeshwor Dolakha’s Santoshi Budhathoki in the seventh minute before Bimala Sunuwar scored the equaliser in the fourth minute of the first half injury time.

Bahrabise then scored two goals in the second half to seal the victory. Rajani Shrestha restored their lead in the 53rd minute and Samjhana Lawato made it 3-1 four minutes from end.

Likewise, Chandrapur outplayed Kathmandu Metropolitan City 3-0. Rajani Thokar opened the scoring in the 15th minute, while Rashmi Kumari Ghising doubled the tally in the 36th minute.

Saloni Rana Magar extended the lead with her team’s third goal in the second minute of the first half injury time.

A total of 18 teams are taking part in the league-cumknockout tournament. The teams are divided into four pools and winners from all the groups will make it to the semi-finals. The final is slated for June 27. The champions will receive Rs 500,000, while the runners-up will get Rs 300,000. Likewise, the best player of the tournament will earn Rs 25,000, whereas individual award winners — goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, striker and coach — will get Rs 10,000 each.
