Kathmandu, September 15
Nepal Netball Association is organising the first South Asian U-16 Netball Championship here at the Nepali Army Sports Complex covered hall from October 18-22.
In all, six teams — Nepal, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Maldives — will take part in the league-cum-knockout tournament, informed the organisers at a press meet today. The estimated cost of the tournament is Rs 3.1 million and Nagarjun Municipality has allocated Rs 1.5 million for the event.
“We will manage rest of the amount from corporate houses and private sector,” said NNA President Mohan Bahadur Basnet, who is also the Mayor of Nagarjun Municipality. According to NNA, currently 22 players are undergoing training and the final 12-member squad will be picked up after a month.
Member of National Sports Council Indira Niraula said she would take the initiative to support the tournament. “I am not the authority to allocate financial support from the NSC but I will try my best to help the tournament,” she said.
