KATHMANDU: Nepali youth team defeated Thailand 2-1 in the first match of the ITF Asian U-12 Finals in Astana, Kazakhstan on Monday.
The Nepali team of Aarav Samrat Hada, Aki Zuben Rawat and Pranav Manandhar registered the victory. Nepal fell behind after Rawat lost the singles match before Hada levelled the scores by winning another singles match.
Hada and Rawat then teamed up to win the doubles match to complete the victory. The team will next play against hosts Kazakhstan.
In girls’ section, Nepali team of Aisha Dolker Gurung, Azaa Regmi and Subhangi Laxmi Shah faced a 3-0 defeat against China.
The Nepali teams had made it to the finals by finishing runners-up to India in the qualifiers in Kathmandu earlier this year.
