Kathmandu, October 4

The Everest Premier League Pvt Ltd today announced the dates of the third edition of the TVS EPL.

The premier Twenty20 cricket tournament featuring city-based franchises will be held from December 8-22 at the Tribhuvan University Stadium, informed the organisers at a press meet.

“The TVS EPL organising team is working hard on making it an absolute class event by adding elements from Indian Premier League and international cricket,” said the organisers. “The number of days of the tournament has been increased to 15, so as to include less double headers and attract more audience. Last year, around 60,000 fans turned up to the stadium and we are planning to bring in one million spectators.”

“The ground and other logistics have been booked accordingly with the Nepal Sports Council and permissions regarding the same have already been acquired. Necessary documents have already been forwarded to the International Cricket Council and we are hoping for approval in the near future.”

EPL Managing Director Aamir Akhtar thanked the partners, sponsors, franchises, media and fans for their continued support. “We are trying our level best to increase investment and to incorporate international expertise, whether that is in ground operations or ground entertainment, to make the event bigger. TVS EPL 2018 will be a class-apart event and is sure to give the spectators and viewers a spectacular event, the likes of which they’ve only seen in international leagues,” said Akhtar, the former national team member.

A total of six teams will take part in the tournament with top four teams making it to the playoffs. The organisers have not revealed the prize money but said they were not in race of becoming the biggest event in terms of cash prize. “We will have attractive prize money,” said Akhtar. Last year, the champions earned Rs 2.1 million.
