Kathmandu, March 31

Triton College won the title of the Golden Gate College Cricket League here at the Tribhuvan University Stadium today.

Triton defeated Golden Gate International College by five wickets in the final.

Invited to take the first strike, Golden Gate posted 126-7 in their allotted 20 overs before Triton reached 127-5 with four balls to spare.

Chasing a modest target, Triton lost first two wickets with just 16 runs on the board before Pradeep Airee and Adil Khan revived the innings with a 65-run partnership for the third wicket.

Golden Gate returned to the match after Abinash Bohara dismissed Khan and Binod Bhandari before Amar Singh Routela accounted for Kiran Thahunna.

At that stage, Triton needed 21 runs from 14 balls and Bikram Sob single-handedly took the team home scoring an unbeaten 17 off just six balls hitting two sixes. Airee top scored with run-a-ball 45 not out with the help of three fours, while Khan struck two each fours and sixes in his 32 ball 33. Opener Arun Airee and Binod Bhandari chipped in with 11 each.

Avinash Bohara was the pick of the Golden Gate bowlers taking 2-30, while Nandan Yadav, Dipendra Singh Airee and Amar Singh Routela grabbed one wicket each.

Earlier, Dipendra Singh Airee scored a half century to lead Golden Gate to the fighting total. Airee struck five boundaries and two sixes in his 50-ball 61.Sumit Maharjan scored 20 hitting two fours and a six, while Jitendra Singh Thakuri (16) and Sonu Tamang (11 not out) were the only other batsmen to contribute in double figures. Man-ofthe-match Bikram Sob, Lalit Narayan Rajbanshi and Arun Airee took two wickets each for Triton.

With the title, Triton received Rs 222,222, while Golden Gate pocketed Rs 111,111. Dipendra Singh Airee of Golden Gate was named the player of the series and he earned Rs 25,000. Adil Khan of Triton and Rupesh Shrivastava of Kathmandu University were declared the best batsman and bowler respectively and they got Rs 10,000 each.

A total of 12 teams took part in the tournament organised by University Cricket Club.
