Ruslan Three Star Club advanced to the semi-finals of the Bhugarbha Cement second Martyrs Memorial Makawanpur Gold Cup here today.
Defending champions Three Star defeated Saraswoti Youth Club 2-0 in the fourth and final quarter-final match on goals from Mansa Bibhigui and Peter Segun. Three Star will face Dauphins Family Club on Thursday.
On Wednesday, hosts Makawanpur- XI will take on Nepal Police Club in the first semi-final match.
Three Star took the lead in the 25th minute when Bibhigui beat Saraswoti goalkeeper Raj Kumar Ghising in oneon-one situation. Segun headed home the team’s second goal in the 60th minute following a pass from Rupesh KC to double the tally. Segun was named the man of the match and he earned Rs 10,000.
Anil Gurung shot wide in the 55th minute, while Sushil Rai came close to extending Three Star’s lead in the 75th minute but Saraswoti custodian Ghising denied him. Saraswoti also wasted a chance in the second half.
Three Star goalkeeper Allen Neupane denied Tirtha Basnet.
Three Star coach Meghraj KC said he was satisfied with the overall performance of his junior players and that the team missed the services of senior players. “The team could not perform as per the expectation as six of our players are in national team duty,” said KC. “They will join the team for the semi-final match.”
Asked about the first meeting with Dauphins, Three Star coach KC said the team was ready to face the Cameroonian side. “As they are not registered anywhere, the organisers should take all the responsibilities regarding the match,” he said. Saraswoti coach Pradip Nepal said the team lost because of minor errors. “The team also lacked coordination between midfield and forward,” he said.
