KATHMANDU: Nepali boxer Sushil Thapa advanced to the quarter-finals of the Open International Boxing Championship in Bangkok,Thailand on Monday.

The Tribhuvan Army Club boxer, Thapa defeated Pakistan’s Eid Ullah in the first round match of the men’s 49kg weight category.

Thapa earned a RSC (Referee Stop Contest) decision in the first minute of the second round after the Nepali boxer floored his Pakistani opponent.

Referee stopped the bout and declared Thapa the winner after Ullah faced the count for the third time in the same round. A total of 17 boxers — 10 men and seven women — of the national team are currently in Thailand for training to prepare for the upcoming 13th South Asian Games.
