KATHMANDU: Nepal finished third behind winners Singapore and runners-up Qatar in the ICC Twenty20 World Cup Asia Region Final at the Indian Association Ground in Singapore on Sunday.

Nepal faced an 82-run defeat at the hands of the home team in the winners-take-all encounter. The organisers handed over the winners’ trophy and medals to Singapore players and the runners-up medals to Nepali cricketers at the presentation ceremony after the match.

The organisers and the Nepali team came to know about the error after the protest from Qatar officials and Nepal team manager Raman Shiwakoti returned medals to the organisers.

While Singapore topped the table with seven points, Nepal fell behind Qatar in net run rate after being tied on four points.

Kuwait (three) and Malaysia (two) finished fourth and fifth respectively.
