Kathmandu, June 9
Hem Tamang won the title of the Fund-raising Golf Tournament organised by Nepal Golf Association to raise funds for amateur golfers Tanka Bahadur Karki and Sukra Rai at the Royal Nepal Golf Club today.
Played under stableford 3/4 handicap format, Tamang earned 37 points to claim the trophy. Sam Doublard came second with 36 points and he also won the longest drive award.
Phuntsok N Lama bagged the gross section title with 34 points and also claimed the most birdies award with three birdies. Dr Rita Thapa won the women’s category trophy with 32 points, while Devasri Rana came second with 29 points. Hari Bahadur Shrestha lifted the senior section award with 35 points, whereas Gen (retd) Prajwalla Rana won the super senior category trophy with 31 points.
Likewise, Sadbhav Acharya won the junior section title with 39 points, while Aarav Gurung finished runner-up with 27 points. Ashok SJB Rana bagged the closest-to-the-pin award. A total of 51 golfers took part in the tournament. NGA President Tashi Ghale, RNGC President Rabindra Man Shrestha and IPP Prachanda Bahadur Shrestha gave away the prizes to the winners.
Meanwhile, NGA President Ghale handed over Rs 500,000 each to national team members Tanka Bahadur Karki and Sukra Rai. The amount was raised from the participants of the event and donation drive conducted by the NGA.
Ghale thanked all the golfers and contributors for their generous support for the cause. “I am extremely happy as we were able to raise more than what we had expected. It shows that apart from playing and having fun, golfers also contribute to social service,” he added.
RNGC President Shrestha asked the national team members Karki and Rai to concentrate on their performance. “The golfing fraternity is ready to extend help to the players but in return the players should prove with their performance in international tournaments,” he added.
