Nepali young golfer Subash Tamang opened the 85th Singha Thailand Amateur Open with a round of one-under 69 at the Panya Indra Golf Club in Bangkok today.
Tamang carded one-under 34 on the front nine before playing even-par 35 on the latter half. He carded a birdie on the seventh and saved pars on other holes before taking the turn. Tamang then added another birdies on the 16th hole but went on to drop a shot for a lone bogey of the round on the next. He dropped a shot after his driver shot landed into the water.
With the impressive score of one-under 69, Tamang shared the fifth position with Thailand duo Waris Manthorn and Weerawish Narkprachar along with Chinese Taipei’s Wen-Yang Wang. They are one shot behind four players — Thailand duo Wit Pitipat and Chonjarern Baramithanaseth, and Australians Billy Cawthorne and James Conran — who all are tied at two-under 68.
Other Nepali players had a forgetful day in Bangkok. Sukra Bahadur Rai played seven-over 77, while Tanka Bahadur Karki shot nine-over and Neeraj Tamang played 13-over in the first round, according to Tashi Ghale, President of Nepal Golf Association.
