Kathmandu, December 5
Nepal’s Subash Tamang extended the lead to seven strokes after the third round of the golf tournament under the 13th South Asian Games here at the Gokarna Forest Golf Resort today.
Subash Tamang carded four-under 68 to post the 54-hole total of 11-under 205 and he was seven shots ahead of fellow Nepali golfer Niraj Tamang, who played one-under 71 for the total score of four-under 212.
Bangladeshi duo Mohd Farad and Mohd Shahabuddin shared the third position at two-under 214. Fahad carded four-under 68, while his teammate Shahabuddin fired three-under 69. First round leader Sukra Bahadur Rai of Nepal and Sri Lanka’s MU Chanaka Parera were tied at one-under 215 after they played even-par 72. Nepal’s Tanka Bahadur Rai was seventh at even-par 216 after he carded two-under 70.
In men’s team event, Nepal extended the lead to 20 strokes after the home side posted 21-under 627. Bangladesh were second at one-under 647, followed by Sri Lanka at six-over 654.
In women’s section, Grace Yatawara extended her lead by 21 strokes going into the final round over fellow Sri Lankan golfer Taniya Minal. Grace shot two-over 74 for the 54-hole total of three-over 219, while Minal was second at 24-over 240 after she shot 74. Another Sri Lankan golfer Thuhassini Selvaratnam was played a round of nine-over 81 and was third at 25-over 241. Soniya Akhter and Jakia Sultana of Bangladesh were tied at 28-over 244, while Nepal’s Kashmira Shah and Bangladesh’s Nasima Akther shared the sixth position at 35-over 251.
In women’s team event, Sri Lanka were a runaway leaders with the total score of 21-over 453, while Bangladesh were second at 54-over 486 and Nepal third at 74-over 506.
