Nepalgunj, April 17
Tribhuvan Army Club won the title of the men’s hockey tournament at the Mangal School grounds.
Defending champions TAC defeated Nepal Police Club 4-1 in tie-breaker after a 1-1 draw in the regulation period. Narendra Adhikari, Pradeep Rajbanshi, Amit Kumar Shrivastav and Dipendra Ayer scored for TAC, while Keshav Raj Joshi was the lone NPC player who converted from the spot. Earlier, Pradeep Rajbanshi put TAC ahead in the 11th minute, while Roman Rana netted the equaliser for NPC in the 45th minute.
Rana scored 15 goals in the tournament.
Province-5 finished third with a 3-0 victory over Farwest. Manish Gurung, Shasi Darlami and Ravi Kanta Kumar scored one goal each for Province-5.
A total of nine teams took part in the tournament. In women’s section, Farwest and Gandaki Province advanced to the final. Farwest registered a 5-1 victory over Province-2 riding on two goals each from Anju Gurung and Anita Shrestha.
Damara Bhatta added one for Farwest, while Madhu Kumari scored the consolation goal for Province2. In another semi-final match, Gandaki defeated TAC 1-0. Devika BK scored the solitary goal of the match. The final is slated for Thursday.
Basketball
Tribhuvan Army Club and Nepal Police Club won the titles of the National Basketball Tournament in Ghorahi, Dang. TAC registered a 76-58 victory over Province-3 in men’s section final riding on 23 points from Ram Krishna Ghatane. Nepal Police Club finished third with a 74-54 victory over Province-4 in which Bikash Gurung top scored for the winners with 14 points.
In women’s section, NPC recorded a 45-29 victory over Province-3 to win the gold medal. Anusha Malla top scored for NPC with 13 points.
TAC finished third with a 51-39 victory over Farwest. Grishma Silwal scored 11 points for TAC. A total of 18 teams — 10 in men and eight in women — took part in the tournament.
Kabaddi
Tribhuvan Army Club clean swept National Kabaddi Tournament in Bardiya. TAC registered a 42-21 victory over Province-5 in the men’s section final, while the departmental side defeated Nepal Police Club 36-21 to win the women’s section gold medal. A total of 20 teams — 10 teams each in both sections — took part in the tournament.
Cricket
Province-1 and Province-2 made winning starts in the women’s National Cricket Tournament in Lamahi, Dang.
Province-1 defeated Province-5 by seven wickets. Batting first, Province-5 were bowled out for 70 runs in 15.2 overs before Province-1 raced to 74-3 in 14.5 overs. Rashmi Sharma Chalagain of Province-5, who took a hat-trick in the 15th overs, was named the player of the match.
In another match, Province-2 defeated Gandaki Province by 62 runs. Province-2 posted 135-8 in their allotted 20 overs restricting Gandaki to 73-8. Province-2 skipper Saraswoti Chaudhary, who scored 31 off 26 balls, was named the woman of the match.
In men’s section, Nepal Police Club and Nepal APF Club registered victories. NPC defeated Province-5 by 63 runs, while APF beat Farwest by three wickets at the Siddhartha Stadium in Bhairahawa.
Football
Nepal APF Club and Province-5 registered victories in the men’s football tournament in Khajura, Banke. Province-5 defeated Gandaki Province 5-1 in the opening match. Gandaki took the lead in the 26th minute through Tika Raj Gurung’s goal. Binod KC of Province-5 levelled the scores in the 36th minute and Roshan Sen scored the winning goal in the 71st minute. In another match, APF registered a 6-3 victory over Province-1. Ashish Lama, Pradeep Lama and Buddhiman Rai scored two goals each for APF. Tipsan Rai, Ram Tamang and Bidur Rijal netted one goal each for Province-1.
In Rupandehi, Farwest Province and Tribhuvan Army Club made winning starts.
Farwest defeated Karnali Province 3-0, while TAC registered a 5-0 victory over Province-2.
In women’s section, Province-2 and Nepal Police Club won their matches. Province-2 defeated Farwest 4-0, while NPC registered a 4-0 victory over Province-3.
Golf
Tanka Bahadur Karki and Prativa Rai won the individual section gold medals in the National Golf Tournament at the Gokarna Golf Club in Kathmandu.
Karki, who represented Province-1, carded six-under in the final round for the total score of 12-under 204.
Sukra Bahadur Rai, also from Province-1, finished second with the score of nine-under 207 after he played a round of five-under 67 in the final round. Niraj Tamang (78) was a distant third at 220. In women’s section, Prativa Rai won gold with the total score of 266, while Kashmira Shah came second at 275 and Tara Karki was third with the score of 306.
On Tuesday, Province-1 won gold medal, finishing ahead of Tribhuvan Army Club and Province-4.
