Surya Nepal Challenge tees off today at RNGC

Kathmandu, March 4

The Surya Nepal Challenge is beginning at the Royal Nepal Golf Club on Tuesday.

A total of 42 players will participate in the sixth event of the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2018-19. The cut will be applied after the second round with top 21 pros and six amateurs making it to final 36 holes, informed the organisers, Nepal PGA in a release.

The tournament carries a cash purse of Rs 441,000. The winner will be richer by Rs 84,000, while the runner-up will get Rs 53,000.

Third placed pro will receive Rs 37,000, while others in top 21 will earn cash prizes.

“The playing condition of the course has been tweaked up for the tournament. And most of the participants played a practice round on the course to acclimatise with the conditions,” said the organisers.

Defending champion Bhuwan Nagarkoti will be looking to claim the first title of the season, while No 1 pro Shivaram Shrestha will miss the event as he is currently in the United States of America for training. Sanjay Lama, Rabi Khadka and Ram Thapa are the other contenders in the main event.

Nepal PGA President Rabindra Man Shrestha said, “I am confident that the scoring from both professionals and amateurs are going to be low this week. My sincere gratitude to our sponsor Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd for their continuous support towards the development of game.”
