Kathmandu, October 19
Sri Lanka and India advanced to the semi-finals of the first South Asian U-16 Netball Championship here at the Nepali Army Sports Complex today.
Sri Lanka are at the top of the table with six points after their third straight win, while India made it to the playoffs after recording double victories today. India are second despite having six points and they have played their all four matches.
Sri Lanka are the only unbeaten team in the tournament so far, while India and Maldives have faced one each defeat. Nepal won one and lost two matches. Pakistan, who faced heavy defeats in all three matches played so far, are on the brink of elimination.
Nepal and Maldives are tied on two points and the last two league-round matches on Sunday will decide the remaining semi-finalists. Nepal will face Sri Lanka, while Maldives take on Pakistan on Sunday.
In the second day matches, Sri Lanka and India registered double victories. Sri Lanka hammered Pakistan 68-6. Rishini of Sri Lanka top scored in the game with 18 goals and she was named the player of the match. Sri Lanka returned to beat Maldives 60-16 in which player-of-the-match Wijena Sena Nayake netted 24 goals alone.
Likewise, India beat Nepal 42-18. Player-of-the-match Ashu netted 16 goals for India, while Ojaswi Niraula top scored for the home team with 13 goals. Also, India thrashed Pakistan 56-5. Anjali netted 26 goals for India, while her teammate Manavi Sony earned the player-of-the-match award.
