Kathmandu, October 31
The International Cricket Council today announced the Nepal national teams for 50-over, Twenty20 and First Class matches of the MCC Tour.
The ICC has reinstated the membership of the Cricket Association of Nepal on conditional basis following the elective general assembly but the world governing body is yet to handover the powers to the newly-elected body. The ICC will continue to look after the national teams and their international participation until the transition plans are formulated and implemented and has appointed former cricketer Raunak Malla as the focal person.
According to team manager and technical analyst Raman Shiwakoti, the team management and ICC representatives “have been working in close cooperation with the newly-elected body of CAN and National Sports Council for the MCC Tour of Nepal.”
On Wednesday, CAN appointed Gyanendra Malla as the national team skipper after Paras Khadka resigned from his post and also named Dipendra Singh Airee as the vice-captain. Malla will lead the Nepali teams in all three formats of the game against the Marylebone Cricket Club, cricket’s legislator body. Former skipper Khadka will feature in only the 50-over match and will not play in the T20 and First Class games.
The MCC’s Nepal tour will begin with a 50-over match against the U-19 team on November 3. The national team will face MCC in a 50-over match on November 4, while the two sides will play a three-day first class match from November 6-8. The mixed team of national and U-19 sides will face the MCC in a T20 match on November 9. The three-day match against MCC will be Nepal’s first First-Class match in 14 years. Nepal had last played the First Class match against the United Arab Emirates on home soil in 2005 during the ICC Intercontinental Cup.
After completing the Kathmandu leg of the tour, the MCC team will travel to Pokhara and will play against Pokhara Invitational-XI and Chief Minister-XI sides on November 11 and November 12 respectively.
Apart from skipper Malla and his deputy Airee, the T20 squad includes Aarif Sheikh, Amit Shrestha, Avinash Bohara, Binod Bhandari, Karan KC, Kushal Bhurtel, Lalit Narayan Rajbanshi, Nandan Yadav, Pawan Sarraf, Sandeep Jora, Sandeep Lamichhane, Sompal Kami and Sushan Bhari.
Likewise, Aarif Sheikh, Basant Regmi, Bikram Sob, Binod Bhandari, Ishan Pandey, Karan KC, Lalit Rajbanshi, Paras Khadka, Rohit Paudel, Sandeep Lamichhane, Sharad Vesawkar and Sompal Kami have been named for the 50-over match, while the team management made three changes for the First Class match. Jitendra Mukhiya, Pawan Sarraf and Raju Rijal were included in the squad in place of Bikram Sob, Ishan Pandey and Paras Khadka.
