Kathmandu, June 23
Nepali golfer Pratima Sherpa missed the cut after the second round of the Island Resort Championship at the Sweetgrass Golf Club in Harris, Michigan today.
Sherpa, who was playing in the Symetra Tour event at the sponsor’s exemption quota, shot second straight 10-over 82 for the 36-hole total of 20-over 164. As the cut was applied at three-over 147, Sherpa missed the chance to play in final round of the 54-hole tournament.
In the second round, Sherpa shot four-over 40 on the front nine and added six over 42 after taking the turn.
She made a disastrous start to the round dropping five shots on the first two holes.

She faced a double bogey on the first and suffered a triple bogey seven on the next. She carded a birdie on the fifth but dropped a shot on the next hole before ending the front nine with a birdie.
On the back nine, Sherpa faced a double bogey on the 11th and dropped a shot each on the 12th, 13th, 16th and 17th holes. In the 156-player field, Sherpa finished at 154th position. This was the second event for Sherpa under the Symetra Tour — regarded as the Road to LPGA. She had made the debut in IOA Championship in California two months ago. She had missed the cut in that tournament shooting seven-over 79 and 11-over 83 for the total score of 18-over 162 in the first two rounds.
After completing second round, Sherpa posted a message along with a couple of photos in her Facebook wall.
“It was such a great experience for me to play again on the Symetra tour,” wrote Sherpa. “I hurt my back on the first day and I couldn’t imagine not playing after being given this opportunity. So I played with different swing.
Not ideal, but it taught me a lot about how to face the unexpected.”
Sherpa also thanked her coaches. “Thank you so much to my coaches Don Parsons and Preston Combs for your time to help me improve my game. And my Nepali coach Sachin Bhattarai, thank you for being always with me,” she wrote. “I know I’ve a long road ahead, but I am absolutely ready. I cannot imagine not continuing to work towards my dream.”
