PHIDIM: Saraswoti Club romped to 2-1 victory over defending champions Sunsari XI to advance into the last four of the Falgunanda Gold Cup in Phidim of Panchthar on Wednesday.

Sunsari XI’s Dipen Tamang broke the deadlock in the 8th minute of the game before SC’s foreign recruit equalised on the 76th minute. After four minutes, Victor scored his brace to stun the defending champions to book their place in the semifinal of the tournament.

Later, SC’s Victor was awarded man of the match for his scintillating performance and collected a cash purse of Rs 10,000.

In the last quarterfinal match tomorrow, Royal Football Club of Darjeeling will square off against Boys Union of Kathmandu, according to organisers.

A total of 14 teams including 10 ‘A’ division clubs, 3 departmental teams and one team from India is participating in the 10th Ruslan Falgunanda Gold Cup.

The winner will walk away with medals, certificate along with a trophy and Rs 0.4 million, a runner-up will bag Rs 0.2 million.
