Sankata move up to second

Kathmandu, December 8

Ellon Maxwell scored the solitary goal in the injury time as CMG Club Sankata defeated New Road Team 1-0 in the Pulsar Martyrs Memorial A Division League here at the Nepal APF Club grounds today.

With the win, Sankata moved up to second position with 18 points after their sixth win in seven matches. Leaders Signature Manang Marshyangdi Club also have 18 points from six matches and they are ahead on superior goal difference.

NRT (one) are at the bottom of the 14-team league, which does not have the provision of relegation. Instead, bottom three teams will face points deduction and financial penalty from their preparation money.

At a time when the match was heading towards a draw, Cedric Aba released the ball for Maxwell, who slotted home the winner in the third minute of the injury time. NRT goalkeeper Ajit Prajapati, who made strings of saves, was named the player of the match.

Earlier, Nepal Police Club and Himalayan Sherpa Club played a 1-1 draw. Both the teams accumulated 11 points from seven matches and NPC are ahead at the fourth position on better goal difference.

NPC took the lead in the 31st minute through Bharat Shah’s goal. Shah found the back of the nets following a cross from Tej Tamang. Shah came close to doubling the lead five minutes later but he ended up with a wide shot after beating past two defenders. Sherpa levelled the scores in the 70th minute when Biswas Shrestha converted the free kick from outside the penalty area.
