Kathmandu, December 25
The Nepal National and International Players Association reached an agreement with Centre for Ideal Society of Nepal for the NNIPA Sports Award today.
NNIPA President Deepak Shrestha and CISN Chairman Sapana Lama exchanged the memorandum of understanding amidst a programme. As per the three-year agreement, the CISN will provide the NNIPA with Rs 100,000 per year to organise the programme.
CISN chief Lama said her organisation was proud to get the opportunity to be associated with the NNIPA and Award programme. “As an athlete, this is a matter of pride for us,” said Lama, the national women’s team member who won silver medal in the 11th South Asian Games in Bangladesh in 2010.
NNIPA President Shrestha thanked the CISN and said the award was getting better and bigger with the support of private sector. NNIPA had signed the agreement with Janata Bank a couple of days ago. Janata Bank will provide the two outstanding athletes of the Award with Rs 100,000 each for three years.
NNIPA will select the two outstanding players — one each in male and female categories — from among the 29 best players. National associations of their respective sports disciplines will recommend the best players and the NNIPA has formed a three-member committee under its IPP Olympian Deepak Bista to select the outstanding players.
NNIPA has decided to award 29 sports disciplines — which were included in the NSC Championship — in this edition along with the Gajaraj Joshi Ideal Athlete Award and NNIPA Sports Journalism Award. The Award programme is slated for December 28 at Patan Durbar Square.
