Nepali team off to Kyrgyzstan for Nadezhda Cup

KATHMANDU: Nepali national women’s football team has left to take part in Nadezhda Cup scheduled from September 8 to 12 in Kyrgyzstan, today.

Nepal will compete against Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan in the tournament to be played in round-robin format. Nepal will play their first game against Kyrgyzstan on September 8 and face Uzbekistan the following day. Nepal will then compete against Tajikistan on September 10.

According to All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), Nepali team is taking this tournament as part of preparations for the South Asian Games (SAG), 2019 to be held Nepal. The SAG will take place from December 1 to 10.

National Sports Council Member Secretary Ramesh Siwal, ANFA President Karma Tsering Sherpa, ANFA Senior Vice President Pankaj Bikram Nembang, and ANFA General Secretary Indraman Tuladhar, among others, bade farewell to the team.

Skipper Niru Thapa will lead the Nepali team, announced ANFA. Other team members for the tournament are:

Goalkeepers: Anjila Tumbapo Subba, Anjana Rana Magar

Defenders: Punam Jargha Magar, Hira Kumari Bhujel, Amrita Jaisi, Gita Rana, Kabita Dhimal

Midfielders: Dipa Rai, Renuka Nagarkote, Anita Basnet, Manjali Kumari Yonjan, Saru Limbu, Bimala Chaudhary, Indira Rai

Forwards: Niru Thapa (C), Rekha Poudel, Anita KC, Sabitra Bhandari
