Nepali shuttler Dahal bags gold

Nepali youth shuttler Prince Dahal won one gold and two silver medals in the Dubai Junior International Badminton Series on Sunday.

Dahal registered a straight set victory over top seeded Indian opponent Varun Kapur in the U-19 boys’ singles final.

Dahal defeated ninth-ranked shuttler in the BWF Junior World Ranking and defending champion Kapur 21-19, 21-19 to win the gold medal. Dahal had bagged the U-15 boys’ singles gold medal in the previous edition of the tournament last year.

On his way to final, Dahal defeated Indian players Basant Kumar Rajendran and Rohal Gurbani in the semi-final and quarter-final matches respectively.

Dahal, who teamed up with Dubai-based Nepali shuttler Sania Chand, finished second in the mixed doubles.

The Nepal junior champion Dahal and Nabhan Najib of Dubai bagged silver medal in U-19 boys’ doubles.
