Nepal secure consolation win over Indonesia

KATHMANDU: After suffering two defeats and failing to qualify to next round, Nepal beat Indonesia 2-1 to secure a consolation victory in the second round of Olympic Qualifiers in Myanmar, on Tuesday.

Nepal’s striker Sabitra Bhandari opened the scoring in the 37th minute and notched a winning goal with a spectacular free-kick in the dying minutes of second half.

Despite taking a one-goal lead in the first half, Nepal conceded an equaliser to 10-women Indonesia in an early exchange of second-half.

Earlier, Nepal had lost to the hosts, Myanmar and India 3-1 respectively.
