KATHMANDU: Nepal slumped to 40 runs defeat against Zimbabwe during the T20 Tri-Series at the Indian Association Ground in Singapore, on Tuesday.
Chasing a stiff target of 161 for victory Nepal were folded for 120/9 in 20 overs. With this victory, the African nation tops the three-team table with 4 points from three matches.
Nepal star leggie Sandeep Lamichanne jolted a severe blow in the Zimbabwean innings by trapping opener Brian Chari for nought in the first over. At one stage, Zimbabwe were reeling at 38/3 inside five overs.
Zimbabwean skipper Sean Williams played captain’s knock to rescue their side with magnificent 53 runs off just 35 balls studded with four fours and three sixes before being bowled out by Paras Khadka.
Lamichanne and speedster Sompal Kami took two wickets each.
In reply, Nepal made a disastrous start losing opener Pawan Sarraf for a duck inside first over. Nepal’s flamboyant batsman Paras Khadka, who had hit a record-breaking ton against S’pore, departed after scoring 12 runs leaving his team in tatters.
After Khadka’s wicket, Nepal kept losing their wickets at regular interval and never looked like troubling the African side before capitulating to 40 runs defeat.
Binod Bhandari top-scored for Nepal with 33 runs off 35 balls with four hits to the fence.
Sean Williams was pick-of-the-bowler with 4-0-21-3. Later, Williams was adjudged man of the match for his scintillating performance with both the bat and ball.
