Nepal pull off their maiden victory in Asia Cup Qualifiers, in a rain curtailed match. Finally, the Nepalese fans have sensed some relief as Nepal defeated Malaysia by 19 runs to win their first match in the ongoing Asia Cup Qualifiers.
After a good batting display from Nepal in the first innings, the bowlers succeeded to defend the good total of 188 runs in 30 overs.
Dipendra Singh Airee’s 51-ball 54 and Aarif’s unbeaten 64 in just 48 balls helped Nepal to finish with 188 runs on the board. Batting second, Malaysia managed to score just 169 runs at the loss of 9 wickets in their 30 overs. However, this time as well, the pace bowlers went for runs. Nonetheless, the spinners bowled beautifully to seal the victory for Nepal.
Sompal Kami (2), Sandeep Lamichhane (2), Sagar Pun (1), Basant Regmi (3) and Dipendra Singh Airee (1) were the five wicket takers for Nepal. Sandeep was the most economical bowler for Nepal as he conceded just 20 runs in his 6 overs, that included a maiden as well.
Though Nepal won this match, their journey in the tournament will not be an easy one. Not only do they have to win all their remaining matches convincingly, they also have to rely on the performances of other participating teams.
