KATHMANDU: Nepal have been knocked out of global qualifiers race after losing a do-or-die match against Singapore by 82 runs in Singapore today.
In the crucial match of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia Region Qualifiers Final played at the Indian Association Ground in Singapore, Nepali cricket team performed poorly and missed the chance to play the T20 Cricket World Cup in Australia on 2020.
After winning the toss, Singapore opted to bat first and posted a giant score of 191 losing only 6 wickets. Tim David of Singapore posted the highest 77 runs in just 43 balls while Rohan Rangarajan and Manpreet Singh scored 49 and 42 runs respectively.
Avinash Bohora claimed four wickets giving 35 runs in for overs and Karan KC took two for 26 runs in three overs for Nepal.
Nepal chasing the huge target under pressure couldn’t stand against Singaporean bowlers and were all out in 15 overs scoring just 109 runs.
For Nepal, Opening batsman Gyanendra Malla top-scored 39 runs for 21 balls before getting bowled out by Selladore Vijayakumar. While Dependra Singh Airee(23), Skipper Paras Khadka (12) and Sompal Kami(11) were the only batsmen to score double digits.
Singaporean bowler Selladore Vijayakumar claimed four wickets giving only 25 runs in four overs including the major wicket of Gyanendra Malla destabilizing the Nepali batting order. Tim David was declared Player-of-the-match.
After winning the match against Nepal, Singapore is into the global qualifiers.
