Sunsari, January 31
Manang Marshyangdi Club advanced to the final of the Madan Bhandari Memorial Itahari Gold Cup here today.
Manang defeated Nepal Police Cub 1-0 in the second semi-final match of the tournament to set up the tile clash with Tribhuvan Army Cub — who had thrashed Mechi Netralaya Kakarvitta Football Training Centre 4-1 yesterday.
Foreign recruit Afeez Olawale scored the solitary goal of the match for the Pulsar Martyrs Memorial A Division League champions. Olawale found the back of the nets in the 43rd minute following a pass from Hem Gurung. NPC, who won the Khaptad Gold Cup in Dhangadhi last month, pressed hard for the equaliser and came close on a couple of occasions but they could not find the back of the nets. The departmental side also wasted two opportunities in the dying moments of the match.
Olawale was named the man of the match and he received Rs 10,000. The final is slated for Saturday.
The champions of the tournament — organised by Rastriya Jagriti Club — will take home Rs 1.6 million, while the runners-up will earn Rs 800,000. The best player of the tournament will get Rs 30,000 and 42’ LED television, while the highest scorer will earn Rs 30,000. Likewise, five best individuals — goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, forward and coach — will get Rs 20,000 each.
