DAMAULI: The Liglige marathon, organised with the aim of preserving culture and promoting tourism in the region, has taken place today in Gorkha district.
According to Palungtar Municipality chair Dipak Babu Kandel, 120 athletes had registered for the race.
The 38-kilometre race started at 6:30 am from Ligligkot of Palungtar Municipality and passed through Chitrepokhari-Chebetar-Pashlang Chautari route, informed Ransingh Dal Battalion chief, Major Ujjwal KC. He added that the race will end in Gorkha Durbar.
According to the organiser, interested athletes participated in the race by registering themselves at the offices of either Ransingh Dal Battalion, Gorkha Municipality, Palungtar Municipality, or Siranchok Rural Municipality.
Top three runners will get Rs 150,000, Rs 100,000 and Rs 75,000. Likewise, those finishing at the positions below will receive Rs 50,000, 35,000, 30,000, 20,000, 15,000, 10,000 along with certificates and medals.
The marathon has been organised for the publicity of the upcoming Visit Nepal 2020 campaign, organiser informed.
