Nepal Weightlifting Association on Sunday trimmed the 13th SA Games squad to 28 lifters after the selection tournament. Out of the 40 lifters who were undergoing preliminary training camp, 14 each men and women players made it to the second round.

According to NWA Secretary Tilak Raut, the final selection of the players would be done one month before the regional sporting extravaganza.

“As a host country, we will have the privilege to go through the list of players from other countries before entering out athletes. We will try and fit the players strategically so that we can get more medals,” said Raut. The SA Games is slated for December 1-10 in Kathmandu and Pokhara.

In men’s section, Tula Ram Mahato (55kg ), Raju Chaudhary (61kg), Moi Lama (61kg), Prakash KC (67kg), Jeevan Tamang (67kg), Kamal Bahdur Adhikari (73kg), Bikash Thapa (81kg), Om Prakash Baisya (89kg), Bishal Singh Bista and Dinesh Karki (below-96kg), Sandesh Gurung (102kg), Sagar Bhandari (109kg), and Pukar Gurung and Rajiv Maharjan (above-109kg) made the cut.

In women’s section, Reeta Gurung (45kg), Heera Moti Tharu (45kg), Sangeeta Rai (49kg), Kareena Chaudhary (49kg), Sanju Chaudhary (55kg), Kamala Shrestha (59kg), Devi kumari Chaudhary (64kg), Sarada Chaudhary (64kg), Raj Laxmi Thapa (71kg), Tara Devi Pun (76kg), Laxmi Ban (81kg), Man Kumari Kumal (81kg), Bidhya Rai (87kg) and Ashmita Rai (above-87kg) qualified for the national team.
