The final round of the Kwik’s Cup Inter-school National Football Tournament is beginning here at the ANFA Complex on Sunday.
Sainik Awasiya Mahavidhyalaya will take on Super Sense English Boarding School in the opening match of the boys’ tournament. A total of 16 teams have qualified for the final round in boys’ section, while 12 teams will fight for the girls’ section title, informed the organisers at a press meet today.
The participating teams in both sections are divided into four groups and top two each will make it to the quarter-finals. The boys’ tournament final is slated for December 5. The girls’ tournament is slated for December 6-13.
The first round of the tournament was held in 52 districts from June 8. More than 20,000 players from 1,134 schools took part in boys’ section tournament, while 4,194 players from 233 teams participated in girls’ section.
Three teams from Province-1 and two each from Province-2, Province-3, Province-4 and Province-5 qualified for the finals in boys’ section. The organisers held a playoff between the winners of Karnali and Sudur Paschhim to select the qualifying team from the two provinces. They were joined by four teams from the valley.
In girls’ section, two each teams earned berths in the finals from Province-1 and Province-5, while one each team represented other five provinces to join four from the valley. Tournament convenor and Joint General Secretary of All Nepal Football Association Arun Man Joshi said the main sponsors, Chaudhary Group had provided Rs 5.5 million for the tournament and they received three million rupees from the government and another $50,000 from FIFA.
The top four teams in both sections will get Rs 300,000, Rs 150,000, Rs 75,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively.
Chaudhary Group’s Deputy General Manager Lal Babu Prasad urged the ANFA to organise the tournament in professional manner. “We have signed a five-year contract for the tournament and we hope to get the event bigger in the days to come. The ANFA need to give more attention for the tournament,” said Prasad.
