KATHMANDU: Nepal faced heavy defeat to Kuwait in the first match of the FIFA World Cup 2022 round two Asian qualifiers at Jaber al-Ahmad International Stadium, Kuwait on Thursday.
For Nepal, the match proved to be the onset of bad luck with host Kuwait’s 7-0 victory.
In the first sixth minutes of the match, Yousef Naser scored a goal for Kuwait. Nepal, actually, came under pressure after conceding two goals in the first half, but still could not prevent choking as Kuwait added five more goals later.
The match played in Kuwait was supposed to be hosted by Nepal but had to swap to home-and-away match due to lack of a proper stadium in the country.
Staged in Group B, Nepal will play next match against Chinese Taipei in Municipal Stadium, Taipei City, on September 10.
