SURKHET: The Jumla-Rara Ultra Marathon 2018 has kicked off in Jumla district on Wednesday.
The marathon was jointly inaugurated by President of the National Athletics Association Rajib Bikram Shah and champion trail runner Mira Rai.
As many as 320 athletes have participated in the long distance race from Khalanga of Jumla to Rara Lake in Mugu.
In the 49 kilometres long marathon, athletes from 14 districts including Jhapa, Dhankuta, Bhojpur, Sindhupalchowk, Kathmandu, Dhading, Kaski, Syangja and districts of the mid-west and far-west region have participated, informed President Saroj Shahi of the organising Karnali Sports Club.
According to the organiser, athletes have to traverse the altitude from 2,324 metres to 3,600 metres to reach Rara from Jumla.
