Jagadish Ghising of Tribhuvan Army Club set the new national record in High Jump event of the fifth Equestrian Tournament here at the Barahighat grounds today.
Ghising, riding on Sammohan, jumped five feet and nine inches to shatter the previous mark of 5’5” held by Ram Hari Khadka. Fellow TAC rider Rajendra Thapa also broke the previous mark with the jump of 5’7” but he finished second, while Karan Chaudhary finished third with the jump of 5’5”.
TAC riders also clean swept Show Jumping event. Om Prakash Yadav came first with the timing of one minute, while Jagadish Ghimire was second in 1:13 and Megh Bikram Khadka finished third. Likewise, TAC’s Govinda Bahadur Khadka won the Tent Pegging section gold medal, while his teammates Om Prakash Yadav and Lila Ram Khadka came second and third respectively.
In Pony Race event for the local riders, Raj Adhikari, Nabin Pun and Rohit Gautam claimed top three spots respectively. Also, three women riders, Kabita Thapa, Yam Kumari Rana and Sarita Shrestha participated in the exhibition event. Top three riders in High Jump, Show Jumping and Tent Pegging received Rs 20,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively, while the winners in Pony Race bagged Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000.
Pokhara Metropolitan City Mayor Man Bahadur GC, Western Region Brigade Chief Kaji Bahadur Khatri, Gandaki Province MP Indra Dhara Bista, Nepal Olympic Committee Member Tej Gurung, Nepal Equestrian Association President Rabi Raj Rajkarnikar and General Secretary Balram Shrestha among others handed over the prizes.
