Kathmandu, September 28
The government has brought fair price shops into operation across the country from today to facilitate consumers during the upcoming festive season.
Being operated at 47 places across the country, these festive shops will be stocked with goods that have high demand during the festive season at subsidised rates.
These outlets will sell goods at up to 10 per cent discount till the end of Chhath, as per officials of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies (MoICS).
“We have given continuity to such festive shops this year too as operation of such outlets is crucial to control the market price during the festivals and provide relief to customers,” informed Nabaraj Dhakal, spokesperson for MoICS.
Three public enterprises, namely Salt Trading Corporation (STC), Nepal Food Corporation (NFC) and Dairy Development Corporation (DDC) are jointly operating such subsidised shops across the country through their district and regional offices.
In Kathmandu Valley, STC is operating such shops in Kalimati, Koteshwor, Teku, Satungal, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur.
These outlets are offering discount of five rupees per kg on thick rice and sugar, Rs 10 per kg on Basmati rice, Rs 10 per kg on live goats, two rupees per kg on salt, Rs 50 per kg on ghee and Rs 10 per kg on paneer of DDC brand.
Meanwhile, STC is also operating three mobile fair shops in Kathmandu Valley.
Though NFC is already selling different varieties of rice and lentils at discount, it will start selling live goats at subsidised rate from Ghatasthapana — the first day of Dashain.
