DHANGADHI: Rookie batsman Dipendra Singh Airee weaved his magic with both the bat and ball to crush Rupandehi Challengers by 39 runs to secure second consecutive win during the ongoing third edition of Ruslan Dhangadhi Premier League on Thursday.
Airee smashed 67 runs off 50 balls studded with 10 shots to the fence and a towering six before returning with the ball to take two scalps at the Fapla International Cricket Stadium in Dhangadhi today.
After winning the toss, Airee decided to bat first and mustered 121/9 runs before restricting Challengers to 82 runs all out to secure an empathic victory.
Challengers strike bowler Bikram Sob removed Attariya openers early to peg them back at 16/2 inside four over, however, Airee played a captain’s knock to rescue his team with his measured first half-century of the tournament.
Lalit Singh Bhandari was the pick of the bowler with three scalps.
In reply, Challengers were confident of taking all three points after winning two previous games, however, they were deflated by Airee’s smart captaincy.
After removing Challengers top players Babar Hayat and Puneet Mehra for noughts, Attariya were all over Challengers and folded them for a meagre 82 runs all out.
Sumit Maharjan held the inning together from one end with 22 not out but wickets kept falling in the other ends at regular interval. Attariya did not allow their opponent to build any partnership and kept them under pressure by bowling at tandem to tandem.
Sunny Patel, Bhuwan Karki, Dipendra Singh Airee and Dipendra Rawat took two wickets each.
After this comprehensive victory, Attariya climbed to the top of the standings on four points from two games with a superior run rate to other teams.
Likewise, a match between Mahendranagar United and Biratnagar Kings was washed out of rain and both the teams shared a point each today.
