DHANGADHI: CYC Attariya have defeated Kathmandu Goldens by 41 runs in the first qualifier match during the 3rd edition of Ruslan Dhangadhi Premier League here at the proposed Fapla International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
With this victory, CYC Attariya have secured their berth in the final of the competition to be held at the same stadium on Saturday.
After posting a meagre 110/8 runs on board, CYC Attariya restricted Goldens to 69 all out to secure a comprehensive victory today. CYC rode on their foreign recruit man-of-the-match Sunny Patel’s scintillating performance with both the bat and ball to thrash Goldens in style.
Skipper Dipendra Singh Airee contributed 33 runs off 34 balls with five fours and Sunny Patel made 28 runs off 24 balls including four and two sixes.
Surya Tamang, Ankit Dabbas shared four wickets between them while Rashaid Khan and Yogendra Singh Karki chipped in with a wicket each.
In reply, Goldens made a disastrous start as they lost openers cheaply inside three overs. Sunny Patel drew the first blood as he caught and bowled Anil Kumar Sah for a nought.
At one stage, Goldens were reeling at 13/3 as they lost skipper Gyanendra Malla for 11 runs.
Soon after, Goldens chase dented another blow as their inform batsman Ankit Dabas was brilliantly run out as wicketkeeper Kolsawala wiped bails in a flash after collecting a throw from the deep region.
With six wickets in hand and Gaurav Tomar at the crease, Goldens believed they could chase the target down with ease. However, after losing the wicket of Tomar in the 14th over, Goldens lost remaining four wickets for another 17 runs capitulating victory to the opponent.
Tomar contributed run-a-ball 26 with two fours and a six.
Kamal Singh Airee, Bhuwan Karki took two wickets each and skipper bowled a tight spell of 4-1-8-1. Man of the moment Sunny Patel snared three scalps.
Kathmandu Goldens will get one more opportunity to make it to the finals in the second qualifier match as they await the winner of the eliminator fixture between Rupandehi Challengers and Mahendranagar United tomorrow. The second qualifier match will be played on Friday.
The winner of the tournament will walk away with a cash purse of Rs 3 million along with medals, certificates and the coveted trophy, according to the organisers.
