CHITWAN: Home team Chitwan-11 romped to 3-2 victory over Makwanpur-11 in the inaugural match of the Tuborg JCI Development Running Shield Tournament in Narayangarh, on Thursday.
Taking advantage of the by-rules, the winning team has secured a berth in the last four of the tournament.
Rumesh Bartaula opened the scoring for the home team in the 35th minute before scoring his brace in the 50th minute. Makwanpur-11 Rabi Bhandari reduced the arrears in the 68th minute but three minutes later Anish Shreshta scored his first and Chitwan’s third goal to give two-goal lead cousin to the home team.
Within a minute later, Krishna Rumba scored a goal for Makwanpur-11 to bring the score to 3-2 with a quarter an hour left in the clock.
However, the home team rearguard stood firm and thwarted goal scoring moves of the opposition with ease to secure a narrow victory at the full house crowd in Campachaur today.
Later, Rumesh Bartaula was adjudged man-of-the-match for his winning performance and bagged Rs 10,000 in cash prize.
According to the organisers, Nepal Police Club (NPC) will take on Saraswati Club of Kathmandu in another fixture tomorrow. The winner will also directly qualify for the semi-finals due to by-rules.
The tournaments is being organised by Narayangard JCI in-coordination with the Chitwan District Football Association. The winner of the tournament will walk away with a cash prize of Rs 6,66,666, trophy and certificate. Likewise, the runner-up will bag a cash prize of Rs 3,33,333, trophy and certificate.
A total of 10 teams are participating in the event.
