Álvarez landed 214 of 494 total punches (43%) compared to 99 of 539 for Smith (18%), according to Compubox’s punch statistics. He connected on 57% of his power shots and landed twice as many jabs (88) as his opponent (44).
Canelo becomes the fourth Mexican fighter to win titles in four weight classes, joining Juan Manuel Márquez, Érik Morales and Jorge Arce.
