PHIDIM: Bijaya Youth Club (BYC) edged Jawalakhel Youth Club (JYC) 5-4 in a penalty shoot-out and entered into the last four of the third edition of Panthachar Gold Cup in Phidim on Wednesday.
The match was decided in the tie-breaker after both the teams finished 1-1 in regulation time. Lalitpur-based JYC had taken a lead after Sandesh Mahato scored a suicide goal in the 35th minute.
In the second half, Hetauda-based BYC’s Bishow Lama equalised in the 68th minute of the game at the full house crowd in Phidim Higher Secondary School’s ground today.
In the decisive moment, BYC’s goalie made an excellent save to thwart JYC skipper Ajaya Thapa’s kick and sent his team to the semi-finals of the competition.
Likewise, Himalayan Sherpa Club (HSC) will take on New Star Sunsari Club in last quarter-finals game tomorrow, according to the organisers.
A total of 10 teams including ‘A’ division clubs are taking part in the tournament.
