Bhandari bags gold in Dhaka Marathon

KATHMANDU: Nepali athlete Pushpa Bhandari won gold medal in the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Dhaka Marathon in Bangladesh on Sunday.

Bhandari, the 13th South Asian Games silver medal winner, finished the women’s section race in two hours, 59 minutes and three seconds Indian athletes claimed silver and bronze medals in the event. With the victory, Bhandari received 500,000 taka.

According to Nepali team coach Dhaniram Chaudhary, a total of 12 athletes — one from Nepal, three from India and eight from Bangladesh — took part in the event. Likewise, Kiran Singh Bogati finished fourth in the men’s section with the timing of two hours, 26 minutes and 13 seconds. Indian athletes claimed top three spots in the event. Bogati had won gold medal in the 13th SA Games held in Kathmandu in December 2019.
