Kathmandu, September 21
Bangladesh youth football team defeated Sri Lanka 3-0 in the Group B match of the SAFF U-18 Championship here at the Nepal APF Club grounds today.
Md Tanbir Hossain scored the opener in the first half, while Md Fahim Morshed and Md Foysal Ahmed Fahim added one goal each in the second half as Bangladesh made the winning start. Hossain put Bangladesh ahead when he found the back of the nets just 35 seconds after the whistle.
Bangladesh had to wait until 77 minutes to double the tally through Fahim Morshed’s goal whereas Foysal Ahmed Fahim put the issue beyond doubt with the team’s third goal in the 86th minute.
On Sunday, two-time defending champions Nepal will face Bhutan in their second match.
The home team settled for a 1-1 draw against Maldives in the inaugural match on Friday.
A total of six teams are taking part in the third edition of the tournament. Nepal, Bhutan and Maldives are in Group A, while India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are in Group B. Top two sides from both the pools will make it to the semi-finals.
