Tribhuvan Army Club advanced to the quarter-finals of the Lalit Memorial U-18 Football Championship at the ANFA Complex grounds today.
The departmental side defeated Ruslan Three Star Club 3-1 to register their third straight victory. TAC made it to the last eight with nine points, while Three Star earned just one point from three matches. Kailash Lamichhane netted a brace and Bipan Shrestha added one goal for TAC, while Sanjeev Lama scored the consolation goal for Three Star.
Lamichhane put TAC ahead with an early goal in the fourth minute of the match before Shrestha doubled the tally in the 66th minute. Three Star cut the deficit in the third minute of the injury time through Lama’s goal but Lamichhane sealed the victory with his second goal of the match in the sixth minute of the injury time.
In another match, CMG Club Sankata beat Valley Chyasal Youth Club 3-1. Vishal Shahi, Abesh Shahi and Rakesh Gurung scored one goal each for Sankata, while Dhiraj Sinjali Magar netted the consolation goal for Chyasal.
Bishal Shahi opened the scoring in the eighth minute before Abesh Shahi and Rakesh Gurung netted in the 20th and 21st minute to make it 3-0 for Sankata. With the victory, Sankata accumulated four points from three matches, while Chyasal have one point from three games.
A total of 14 youth sides of ‘A’ division outfits are taking part in the event organised by All Nepal Football Association in memory of its acting president Lalit Krishna Shrestha, who died of electrocution at his newly-built residence.
