KATHMANDU: An apprenticeship (industry-based skills training) programme was launched in Province 1 on Thursday.

The programme was inaugurated by Minister for Social Development of Province 1 Jeevan Ghimire, in the presence of other ministers from the state, Swiss Ambassador to Nepal Elisabeth von Capeller, representatives of local government, representatives from industries and experts from Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Sector, as per a media release.

The launch of the apprenticeship programme was jointly organised by Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) and the Man Mohan Polytechnic (MMP) Institute, Hattimuda, Morang of Province 1.

The dual VET approach of an apprenticeship is a blending of institution-based and industry-based learning that impart skills and simultaneously prepares individual for jobs and career growth.

The programme aims to provide apprenticeships to 1,500 youth by 2019.
