Kathmandu, April 23
Amateur golfer Tanka Bahadur Karki moved atop to take three-shot lead after the second round of the Surya Nepal NPGA Tour Championship here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.
Karki carded five-under 67 to post the 36-hole score of four-under 140 in the eighth event under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2018-19. Bhuwan Nagarkoti was second at one-under 143 after he shot one-under 71 in the second round. Deepak Acharya (71) and overnight co-leader Dinesh Prajapati (74) shared the third position at even-par 144.
Karki carded three-under 33 on the front nine and added two-under on the back nine. He shot birdies on the sixth, seventh, ninth, 11th and 18th holes for a bogey-free round.
Nagarkoti carded 33 before taking the turn and shot one-over 37 on the back nine. Nagarkoti carded birdies on third, fourth and sixth holes on the front nine. He then shot another birdie on the 11th hole against bogeys on the 10th and 16th holes.
Surya Prasad Sharma (71) and Shiva Kumar Majhi (73) were fifth at one over 145, followed by Rabi Khadka and amateur Bipin Tamang, who were tied on two-over 146.
The cut was applied at 12-over 156.
Veteran Deepak Thapa Magar, Rame Magar, Krishna Man Rajbahak, Bikash Adhikari, Bal Bhadra Rai, Sanjay Lama, Jayaram Shrestha, Suman Rai, Ramesh Adhikari, Pradeep Kumar Lama, Dhana Bahadur Thapa, Sachin Bhattarai, Chuda Bahadur Bhandari, newly-turned pro Tashi Gahle and Sanjok Moktan qualified for the final two rounds.
