KATHMANDU: Nepal’s disastrous form with the bat continued as they lost eight wickets for just 49 runs in pursuit of 190 runs against The Netherlands during their debut ODI outing at Amstelveen ground in Amsterdam today.

Earlier, Nepal restricted the hosts for a meagre 189 runs all out in 47.4 overs. In reply, Nepal fell short by 55 runs with more than eight overs to spare in their maiden ODI cricket.

Nepali batsmen came out all guns blazing, shared an opening stand of 58 runs for the first wicket before Ani Sah was caught behind for 21 runs trying to heave fast bowler Fred Klassen over the point-region.

At one stage, Nepal was 85-2 with victory in-sight, however, slumped to 123-9 in 37th over. The lower order dramatic batting collapse capitulated a triumph to the hosts.

Gyanendra Malla top scored with 51 runs of just 61 balls studded with eight fours. Aarif Sheikh, Sompal Kami, Basanta Regmi and Karan KC were all out for a nought.

Middle-order batsman Dipendra Singh Airee played a lone hand to reprive the fragile innings with 33 runs in 48 balls with two fours and a six but perished to Fred Klassen caught behind while trying to nudge it down to third man region.

Fred Klaassen, Michael Rippon and Pieter Seelaar took three wickets each to trample Nepal’s innings in just 41.5 overs. Bas de Leede chipped in with a wicket.

Nepal will take on the hosts for a second and last match on Friday.
