Tashi Ghale nominated ANFA Honorary President, again

KATHMANDU, JUNE 16

The emergency meeting of the All Nepal Football Association today nominated Tashi Ghale as the Honorary President for the third time and dissolved the Bhaktapur FA.

The meeting — chaired by ANFA President Karma Tsering Sherpa after General Secretary Indra Man Tuladhar took the roll call to check the majority — decided to nominate Ghale for the executive committee’s remaining tenure of two years, following the instructions from National Sports Council.

The ANFA had sacked Ghale, who was not present in the meeting, on January 17 without stating the reason behind the decision.

Ghale was first nominated as the Honorary President in October 2016 before the special assembly that elected Narendra Shrestha as the top post. Ghale received the post of Honorary President after he supported Karma Tsering Sherpa-led panel in the 2018 elections but that did not last long and he was sacked from the post. He challenged the ANFA decision at the Supreme Court and the apex court ordered the NSC to resolve the issue.

The ANFA dissolved the Bhaktapur FA headed by Gautam Sujakhu for violating statute and formed a 13-member ad hoc committee under Kishor Hekka.

The ANFA had formed a probe committee to investigate about the activities of the Bhaktapur FA. “The decision was taken based on the report submitted by the committee as Bhaktapur FA was found to have violated number of regulations,” said spokesperson Kiran Rai in a release.

The meeting decided to start the national team training from June and seek necessary permission from the National Sports Council, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Youth and Sports to prepare the team for the qualifying matches of the FIFA World Cup and AFC Asian Cup, to be played from October 8 in Nepal.

The players were forced away from the field after the government-imposed lockdown to curb the spread of coronavirus pandemic.

The ANFA also decided to cover the 35 players each from the men and women national teams with COV- ID-19 insurance.

The meeting also decided to distribute COVID-19 relief to district FAs, clubs, players, referees, coaches and staff from the ‘Operation Cost’ account. “We will distribute the relief not exceeding $100,000 for now and reimburse the amount once we receive the fund from the FIFA,” the ANFA release added.

The ANFA appointed Vice-president Bir Bahadur Khadka as the convenor of an investigation committee to find the truths about the activities of the Kaski FA president Milan Gurung.

“The new convenor was appointed after ANFA Member Ratna Kumar Shrestha resigned from the post citing COVID-19 and personal health issues,” the release said. ANFA has come under criticism for supporting Kaski FA President Gurung despite number of complaints against him.
