Kathmandu, November 24
Sainik Awasiya Mahavidhyalaya and Super Sense English Boarding School played a stalemate in the opening match of the Kwik’s Cup Inter-School National Football Tournament here at the ANFA Complex grounds today.
The second match of the day also ended in a draw after Old Capital Secondary School and Sagarmatha Secondary School played a 2-2 stalemate. Manoj Ghimire put Sagarmatha ahead in the 20th minute before Sishant Pariyar levelled the scores for Old Capital three minutes later. Old Capital took the 2-1 lead in the 37th minute when Britant Ale Magar found the back of the nets, while Gyanendra Bhandari scored the equaliser for Sagarmatha two minutes later.
In the day’s third match, Shree Narayan Janata School hammered Bhaktapur English School 9-0. Bishwo Kumar Syangtan, Dilip Moktan and Prabeen Kumar Syangtan scored two goals each, while Suraj Kumar Shah, Nishal Gole and Dal Khapanghi netted one apiece for the winners.
In the last match of the day, SAM-Kaski defeated Triyuga Namuna 1-0. Sushant Thapa scored the solitary goal of the match in the 34th minute. Earlier, All Nepal Football Association President Karma Chhiring Sherpa inaugurated the tournament sponsored by Chaudhary Group.
A total of 16 teams are taking part in the boy’s section tournament and they are divided into four pools. After the league round, top two each from all groups will make it to the quarter-finals.
The girls’ tournament, slated for December 6-13, features 12 teams. Top four teams in both sections will receive Rs 300,000, Rs 150,000, Rs 75,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively.
