Kathmandu, November 21

Brigade Boys Club defeated Tribhuvan Army Club 1-0 and advanced to the semi-finals of the third Chandragiri Mayor Gold Cup Football Tournament here at the Naikap grounds today.

Udey Glory scored the solitary goal of the match to stun the departmental side. Glory dodged as many as three defenders before firing the ball past TAC goalkeeper Biswas Chaudhary in the 30th minute. Glory was named the man of the match and he earned Rs 5,000.

Earlier, Glory made the first move in the 15th minute but he could not find the back of nets, while BBC skipper Jay Gurung’s attempt sailed over the bar four minutes later. BBC dominated the show in the first half but they were not able to add another goal.

TAC put up an improved performance in the second half but they could not find the equaliser, thanks to the heroics from BBC goalkeeper Bishal Sunuwar and the Armymen were ousted from the first match. Dinesh Henjan came close to scoring in the 53rd minute but he shot inches wide of the post, while the striker was denied by BBC custodian Sunuwar seven minutes later.

TAC should have levelled the scores in the 69th minute but Sudil Rai muffed up an easy chance from the box. BBC defender Randip Paudel saved his team in the third minute of the injury time with a goalline clearance, while the defender cleared Henjan’s header moments before the final whistle.

BBC will now face the winners of the match between Nepal Police Club and Chyasal Youth Club for a place in the final.

On Friday, NIBL Friends Club will take on Ruslan Three Star Club in the second quarter-final match.

A total of 12 teams are taking part in the tournament organised by Deepshikha Youth Group. Top two teams will earn Rs 650,000 and Rs 350,000 respectively, while best player of the tournament and the highest scorer will get Rs 30,000 each.
