KATHMANDU: The ‘A’ team of Nagarjun Municipality Ward No 5 made the winning start in the first Mayor Cup football tournament here on Saturday.
Ward No 5 registered a 5-3 victory over Ward No 4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation 60 minutes. A total of 19 teams are taking part in the tournament organised by Youth Hasantar Club.
Earlier, Nagarjun Municipality Mayor Mohan Bahadur Basnet inaugurated the tournament by planting a tree on the premises of Hasantar grounds.
Top two teams will receive Rs 150,000 and Rs 55,000 respectively, while the player of the tournament along with the best goalkeeper, highest scorer and coach will earn Rs 5,000 each.
The final is scheduled for November 16.
